Teams tested out the new normal Wednesday at the Wadena RE/MAX Curling Club in the Quill Plains Chevrolet Premier League. It may have been “different” but teams are starting to get used to Masks in the lobby, 1 sweeper, not sweeping opponents rocks behind the t-line, social distancing, staggered starts and more. The league showed its parody with many close battles. In this weeks feature game Defending Champions Greg Harcourt (Accent Credit Union Quill Lake) gave up 3 in 8 and lost in the extra end to Garry Leach Brendonn Holdings / Kenzie Seeds

NEW kids league set to start November 2

With the absence of a Elementary School Program Wadena RE/MAX Curling Club has started a “Kids League” for kids Grades 2 and up. The league will focus on GAMES with instruction during the games. Games will include traditional, doubles, triples and even singles. The kids membership is $50. The league starts at 4:15 to allow for out of town kids to be able to make it in time. Curling going ahead as planned this season with a few tweaks to address the pandemic. The club is currently working on signage and other covid measures to ensure the safety of the patrons. Some examples are NO Change-rooms, Changing ONLY shoes on location, traffic directions, players sanitize their own rocks before and after game, etc…. A full and separate announcement will be put out regarding the Covid protocols. New to the club is a Kids Instructional League Mondays 4:15-5:45 to fill the void of an Elementary program this year. The league will focus on games with instruction on the ice for Grades 2 and up).

The election of the new Board was also conducted and the Board is as follows:

The season long 50/50 will return this year with every member expected to sell one book of ten tickets ($100 worth). The lottery license is in process and tickets are expected to be distributed later in November for a drawing later in the season. Due to lost revenues from early closure last year, projected higher expenses due to Covid-19, and potential loss of revenues from Covid restrictions the fees have been increased to insure the viability of the club. Fees are as follows for the coming season:

Adult Member: $225
Junior Member $50 (Including Kids League)
5th/Spare/Practicing Member: $100 (Includes someone affiliating for Playdowns)

Leagues Start November 2nd and include Monday League, Kids League, Tuesday League, Premier League (Wed), Daytime League (1:00 Thursdays). School league TBD.

Team Syrota looks to Qualify for Senior Provincials. This weekend Wadena plays host to the Senior Women’s Q-Spiel #1 where 4 Senior Ladies teams will qualify for the Provincials. Local team Deloris Syrota will face 6 other top Senior Ladies Teams starting Friday January 10th at 2:30. The Final games are Sunday 1:00 with the two C-Side Qualifiers.
