An extra end win by Wadena’s own Team Bindig capped off a great weekend of curling at the Jiffy Lube Junior Men’s Qualifier #3 in Wadena.

A huge thank you goes out to CURLSASK Competition Liaison, LEE JOHNSON, who stepped up when the clubs was seeking help. Lee volunteered his time the entire weekend in the club taking on a huge role in making the event a success. A heartfelt thank you also goes out to the other event volunteers Diane Bondnarek, Lori Mikush, Chad Moir, Keenan Sowa, Dwight Pomedli, Becky Pomedli, Fara Hals, Dane Ward, Loretta Van Luven, Ellen Comfort, Corrissa Smale and her team. The club would also like to recognize 2 Chicks Catering for keeping the curlers and fans well fed and watered, along with Dustin Mikush and Scott Comfort for providing ice that the coaches and curlers raved about. The event gave the community an good economic boast with 12 teams, family and friends making Wadena their home for the weekend. Last and certainly not least the club would like to thank the local businesses that contributed. The gift bag donations were provided by Wadena Coop, Wadena Drugs, and Frontier Truck and Trailer and Narfason’s supplied the rope dividers.

The entire weekend saw some great curling and the large crowd was treated to some exciting finishes on Sunday night. Team Myers stole the victory by a few inches tied coming home, and Bindig won in an extra end moments later. Team Bindig is likely one of the youngest teams that qualified for the Provincials and they join another Local Dustin Mikush with Team Dales at the Provincials. The teams that qualified for the Provincials this weekend included Jonathan Zuchotzki – St. Walburg Curling Club, Austin Williamson – Regina Callie Curling Club, Brandon Myers – Regina Callie Curling Club, and Jayden Bindig – Wadena Curling Club.

The Jiffy Lube Men’s Provincials runs January 4-8, 2017 in Melfort, SK which leads to the Canadian Junior Championships January 21-29, 2017 in Victoria, BC.
